"Year after year, Kevin Mott produces one of the Northwest’s top examples of Cabernet Sauvignon for Rick Small, and his latest vintage doesn’t miss a step. Eight vineyards, including Champoux, Discovery, Sagemoor and the Woodward Canyon Estate make up this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (76 percent), Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah. The nose creates hints of black cherry, chocolate and black pepper, and there’s a match on the palate. Fine-grained tannins, blueberry acidity and black tea combine to give it a remarkable structure that’s superb now, but should also age for more than a decade. This ranked as perhaps the most expressive Cabernet Sauvignon of the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition and merited its gold medal. 14.6 percent alcohol" (http://www.winepressnw.com)

I was able to taste three 2021s from Woodward Canyon. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series checks in as 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc and was brought up in 30% new French and Hungarian oak. It's a perfumed, exotic, pretty red that has both red and blue fruits as well as some underlying sappy flowers, truffle, and leafy herb-like aromas and flavors. It's beautifully balanced, has fine tannins, and a pure, layered, seamless profile that will evolve gracefully over the coming 15 years.

Aromas of dried herbs, spicy oak and cigar box with ripe dark berries underneath. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and chalky with a polished but tight tannin structure and a succulent finish. Drink or hold. WE91Wine Enthusiast

Masses of steeped plums and crushed black raspberries and a dusting of clove and exotic spice make the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series a total pleasure on the nose. This sweeps across the palate with ease, guided by zesty acidity and ripe wild berry fruits that slowly saturate. It tapers off with a spicy tinge, leaving an air of lavender and hints of salted licorice. Fine-grained tannins frame the experience nicely.
