This is the classic, traditional "Formula" used by the ancient Barolo Families to produce a Barolo which embraces and melts each of the peculiar characters of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barolo area. The Barolo Classic Borgogno is made by the combination of the grapes coming from five of the most prestigious vineyards of the Barolo area: Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, Liste, San Pietro delle Viole. This is not just a Barolo, it is much more. It fully reflects the elegance and the power of a real Barolo from the Village of Barolo.

Lovely aromas of forest berry, rose, wild herb and violet waft out of the glass along with a whiff of new leather. On the elegantly structured, almost ethereal palate, notes of star anise and clove accent juicy red cherry, pomegranate and blood orange. Polished tannins and bright acidity keep it balanced. Drink 2023-2030.

This red is packed with ripe, rich cherry and plum fruit. Reveals leather, tar and underbrush notes, which add depth as this plays out on the lingering aftertaste. This shows ample power for the vintage and an open texture, all coupled with good grip. Best from 2025 through 2040. 2,500 cases made, 1,250 cases imported.

The 2018 Barolo is delicate and fine. It shows a very clean and hands-off approach in which the grape is put front and center. Tart berry, cassis, licorice and dusty earth emerge from the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is silky and long with just enough tannic detailing to keep it tight and focused. This Barolo should drink nicely up to the 10 or 15-year mark.

The 2018 Barolo is a pliant, supple wine to drink now and over the next decade. All the elements come together so nicely. Time in the glass brings out notes of cedar, dried cherry, forest floor, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and dried herbs to round things out. This is very nicely done.
