Bottled in April 2016, the 2016 Goulee by Cos d'Estournel has a vivid, fresh, lively bouquet of black fruit infused with bell pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and plenty of tarry black fruit laced with tobacco. I appreciate the freshness and classicism of this Goulee, which is more cohesive and shows a little more substance than previous vintages. Very fine.

Full of ripe fruit that gives an almost opulent character, this powerful wine is packed with tannins. A touch of dark chocolate contrasts with the black-currant fruits and acidity. The wine will develop relatively quickly and be ready to drink from 2021.

The 2016 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is unquestionably the more forward, front-end loaded release. It has attractive tobacco and herbal notes as well as plenty of dark fruits, medium body, a supple, rounded texture, and a good finish. It's a satisfying, balanced, high-quality wine from a great estate.

The 2016 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is made up of 77% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It has a deep garnet-purple color and opens with youthful notes of crushed red and black plums, cherries and blackberries with touches of chocolate mint and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of juicy red and black fruits, framed by soft tannins and finishing with a minty lift.
