The Schiavenza 2019 Barolo Cerretta (with only 2,928 bottles made) is different from the other three wines in this flight in that it opens to softer and riper fruit tones, and the oak remains further in the background. The fruit recalls cooked cherry and blackcurrant, and with a little time, those oak-driven notes of spice and sweet cinnamon do filter through. I recommend giving this wine a few more years to surpass any youthful awkwardness.

Presents plum, cherry, leather, iron and eucalyptus flavors wrapped in toasty, vanilla-tinged oak. Firms up on the finish, where a pleasantly astringent feel lingers. Delivers a warm, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2026 through 2043. 244 cases made, 100 cases imported.

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta shows a more restrained side of Serralunga (in relative terms), as most wines from this site do. Forward and supple, the 2019 has good depth. I find it a touch advanced in terms of its flavor profile, despite its pretty red-toned fruit, incense, spice, leather and tobacco flavors.
